Miss Taxi Ghana
Women in the transportation sector are largely under-represented worldwide and the situation is no different in Ghana. WATA is currently providing training to 73 female commercial bus drivers and 20 female truck drivers because clients of WATA know that women behind steering wheels have fewer accidents, consume less fuel and cause less vehicle wear and tear. Placing women behind the steering wheel is a big statement in Ghana where female professions are limited and predestined.
Esenam Nyador is a female entrepreneur running a driving business and partnering with the West-African Transport Academy (WATA). After the success of the pilot project that trained 73 women to become professional bus drivers, she wants to upscale and educate more batches of women. Seeing more women driving big vehicles sends a message to people that women can take on different roles in society.
